General information about latex rubber
From the rubber tree's juice to the end product: latex.
Indispensable for your latex-rubber clothing and lingerie, and other self-created latex creations.
Natural Latex rubber is a natural product, the juice is extracted from the rubber tree (Hevea Brasilienses).
Latex rubber is tapped by cutting notches in the bark of the rubber tree with a knife.
At the end of the notch a gutter is made, with underneath a container or bucket, so the latex rubber is collected drop by drop and can then be collected by the tappers to later be processed into the latex-rubber product that we offer as fashion fabrics in our latex shop to make latex clothing and lingerie, and other products.
When heating natural latex rubber with sulphur (vulcanisation), a substance is created that has much better properties. The higher the sulphur percentage, the harder the (latex), rubber becomes. Latex is a suspension of many hundreds of natural polymer particles. The liquid natural latex rubber is highly elastic and of high quality.
We sell pure natural latex with very soft characteristics: (LPM)
In order to obtain the beautiful latex fashion fabrics (sheets), the latex undergoes a chemical process and natural pigments are added in order to obtain the desired colour.
We sell these beautiful latex fabrics from the roll in various lengths and colors for a nice price in this shop.
In photography, decor world, theater, sports world and the latex/rubber fashion world, clothing and furniture industry use natural latex/rubber for its special properties.
Latex can be glued with latex glue, (also available in our shop) to make latex clothing you do by using latex glue and not on the sewing machine.
Some people are allergic to latex by certain proteins present in the latex. These people should simply avoid contact with latex.
Making your own Latex rubber clothing is a common activity these days.
Latex is used worldwide more and more, to manufacture clothing and lingerie. It is also used in fashionable footwear and handbags.
Many famous fashion designers and “stars” have also found their way to this colorful and soft natural product.
Latex is also used for various technical applications, so is a versatile and trendy and nature friendly product.
Something else that is also important to know:
Latex and vinyl, PVC, lacquer are substances that look similar, but are in fact very different.
Yet PVC, vinyl etc. are often mistaken for latex.
In reality, there are some important differences between these substances.
Read on for a lesson on what makes the fabrics different and what to look out for so that you can be sure you are buying the right one.
Latex and vinyl(PVC) are not the same material.
The main difference is that latex is a natural rubber, a natural fibre that comes from the rubber tree.
Vinyl, PVC, on the other hand, is man-made. It comes from (oil) plastic and is a widely produced synthetic material.
When it is about clothing, vinyl is usually called PVC and is stitched.
Given the different production and properties between the two, the average cost of latex is more than double that of Vinyl(PVC). This means that the average selling price of latex is higher than that of Vinyl and PVC.
Latex has very high quality properties and is a top natural product, also feels soft on the skin and is very stretchy in all directions.
Latex clothing has been glued and not stitched during production.
Vinyl(PVC) fabrics are often deliberately mislabelled/recommended as if they were latex.
Many retailers and even industry publications falsely refer to vinyl(PVC) as if it were latex, which creates even more confusion. Vinyl and PVC is used to simulate the appearance of latex, but because it is cheaper and easier to produce, many retailers presumably see the advantage of producing Vinyl and PVC clothing rather than the more expensive latex and falsely refer to it as latex.
